Jacobs’ work conveys an exploration of boldly colored non-representational forms utilizing a broad range of materials and mediums including oil based enamel, traditional oils, acrylic, metal, glass, rope, nails, sand & mixed media.

Originally based in Northern California, Jacobs’ has resided in the Pacific Northwest for the past 10 years including a Portland Oregon based studio since 2000. His works have been seen in the Hotel Max in Seattle in addition to permanent exhibits among the interior design community of Portland and private residences across North America.

His approach in the creation of such art mirrors the style of Jackson Pollock with most canvases produced directly on the ground in an unorthodox physical effort with the paint. The end result is a warmth and energy that have been considered in the direction of Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, Lee Krasner and Pat Steir among Jacobs’ favorite influences. Jacobs’ direction leads the viewer to interpretive concepts and breaks with tradition in mediums and presentation. Howard Jacobs’ has been described as a part of the next generation of American Abstract Expressionism.
