April 4 - On this Easter Sunday morning - art quotes I found today:
-Artists paint virtual doorways. Viewers stand in front and choose whether to enter the visual narrative... (Ken Campbell)
-The artist appeals to that part of our being which is not dependent on wisdom; to that in us which is a gift and not an acquisition – and therefore, more permanently enduring. They speak to our capacity for delight and wonder, to the sense of mystery surrounding our lives; to our sense of pity, and beauty and pain. (Joseph Conrad)
-An artist is privileged to fall in love over and over again. Each new piece bears the potential for that glorious intoxication – and for the paralysis of its glittering expectation. (Kim Denise)
-Artists express their own soul through their paintings. It is, perhaps, an affirmation of who we really are--as art rarely lies. (Jack Dickerson)
-For artists there waits the joyous compromise through art, with all that has wounded or defeated us in daily life... not to evade destiny, as the ordinary people try to do, but to fulfil it in its true potential – the imagination. (Lawrence Durrell)
-Not only can we create art, art creates us. (Maria Eskenasy)
-Artists are, by nature and necessity, solitary souls. (Ann Richmond Garlough)
-To capture through art a fragment of our collective experience. To discover deep meaning and deep thought, the joy of creative expression. We move through life with grace, ethics and spirituality, and relearn daily through our art to cherish humanity and our natural world. (Valerie Kent)
-That's the artist's role - to strike out always for something new, to break away, to defy, to... grapple with the unfamiliar. (Brian Aldiss)

April 3 - Reading Jung tonight -"The self is a circle-it's center unknown to you. That center, which is deep in the unconscious mind, is pushing you, your capacities and your instincts to discover your core. It gradually wakes during the parts of your life and gradually goes to sleep in later stages."

April 1 - 7 new abstract works added to the web site (see below) that were conceived between January - March 2010 - A rare sunny evening in Portland tonight provided the right moment for a photo shoot. I welcome your feedback!

March 31 - Jackson Pollock - "It doesn't matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said". Ever wonder why it takes so incredibly long for oil paint on canvas to dry? Time to either have the Portland rain go away and get the temperatures up for faster drying or begin painting a new concept.
On the road for business travel this week.....

March 15, 2010 - Working this week on concepts with oil, resin and acrylic applied on canvas at the same time

Joseph Cambell quote - "Art is the transforming experience. The revelation of art is not ethics, nor a judgement, nor even humanity as one generally thinks of it. Rather, the revelation is a marveling recognition of the radiant form of forms that shines through all things."
